Yup. Our first child turned 5. We can hardly believe it.
He is such a good boy -- and I feel so guilty as he is clearly in a state of dismay about what is happening around here. He has always been sensitive to change, and a bit mopey until he knows it's good change... So, I am determined to get the house in order and straightened up so it will look less like change (albeit for the spare room which looks completely different now!) and more like home to our furry boy.
Of course, nothing short of a tasty burger would do to celebrate this auspicious day... It's funny, I still remember him when we first got him so clearly on that first day almost 5 years ago, with his little "therapy dog" cape and halty that hey kept chewing his way out of. A mind of his own from the beginning... the adventures we've had...

I know it sounds crazy, but Ashton really has been such a great kid -- and I just love seeing him happy -- finding adventure and fun and snuggles with him have surely kept my BP down over the years with all the juggling of so much these last few years!!! He has been an absolute emotion reader for sure -- on the saddest of our adoption days, this dog would not leave my side.. He is incredible.... I truly hope he finds the next few months an adventure and that he's happy one or both of us are around all the time balance as he figures out his role as big brother and protector of our little man...

Yes, I know, we are part of the "crazy people" who see their pets as nothing short of their children... and we are so lucky to have Ashton... For those of you making a correlation between names, please keep in mind, we didn't name either of our children :) they both came named (ashton by CPL and a. by those in Russia)... Just one of life's funny coinky-dinks!

For those reading, please say a little prayer for Kaiser -- Our good friends The Harkin's pup --- Kaiser passed away on May 1, so it was a bitter sweet day of celebration -- Of Ashton's life and of Awesome Kaiser --- Kaiser was a great dog, had a wonderful life & a family who adored him, & Ashton enjoyed tearing around together in the Harkin's yard...You'll be missed, Kaiser!!

Thank you very much for the comment on my blog! Where are you in the adoption process?
Happy Birthday Ashton!

Happy belated bday Ashton--we are thankful you failed your therapy dog classes--you belong at the river!!! Can't wait to see him chasing around after the little man!!
Thanks for the thoughts on Kaiser, very bittersweet, he was a wonderfully weird dog and our house seems a little more empty.
