Goodbye Gobstoppers....

When we met our LM, we wondered about the big gobstoppers (aka: tonsils!) lingering in his wee mouth... After a couple rounds of ENT and other visits, and slower than would be anticipated expressive speech and audiology showing "underwater" hearing abilities on his right ear... well, the decision seemed unanimous for a tonsillectomy. Of course, LM didn't wager his vote, but boy was he ever a brave and great little trooper through this week.

As all this happened and has limited our "outings" to be silly,
but to this post I'll try to rhyme to add some glee,
With what "tone" should you read about our early December holiday fun?
as you read think "Twas the Night before Christmas", yes, that is the one.

Twas the Night before Surgery....when all through the yard,
The Sun Set on LM, over his tonsils he was swallowing hard.

In pre-op the toys were ready, placed on the bed to help reduce his fear,
And with them he played, without nary a tear.

(EVERYONE in Pre-Op commented on what a good boy he was and that no other kid his age would be crying his heart and tonsils out)
When what did our post op wandering eyes get to see?
A therapy dog, coming to visit us,
how appropriate for our Ashton loving boy could that be?

(Contrary to how it appears in this photo, it really did perk him up! :))
PS... For those of you who end up in the hospital with your kids, a hint from lesson learned: never wear white/beige... anyone know how to get pink dilautid out of cream colored fleece?... oops! ok, back to the story! :)

He snuggled and cuddled, but do not begin to think...
that in this big bed, any of us slept a wink...

But, as it was nearing time to pack our bags and go,
He was giving lectures & trainings on how to take blood pressures and so...

And, then, just 6 days later, on one starry night,
He got to meet up and play, with our friends great kids, he had such a delight.

He was brave, he was strong,
But oddly, I do think this hospitalization increased our bond.
Again he amazed us with his sweet demeanor,
Even though he began to spring up this week
with "I am almost 2" (and you know what that means -- ahh)
And so, now, at the end of the "who stole my tonsils" rhyme for a while,
I give you his weekly photo,
where he managed to scrounge up one cute smile!

"It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" Home 27 Weeks and 2 tonsils, 2 adenoids lighter,
with 2 ear tubes to hear you better!

Precious & brave LM!! He has bounced back with that strong resiliency of his, & Mama & Papa were there for him through it all. He looks like he's back to his happy little self again & hopefully will hear more clearly now, too. I'll bet you're so glad this is behind you now & can move forward to enjoying your first Christmas with your greatest Gift... LM Himself! Love & hugs, AN

Wow! That was an adorable story to an arduous journey through the hospital stay! I recall how stressful it was for Brian when Haley had surgery several times; however, stressful times are definitely good for bonding as you pointed out. Way to go finding the positive in a trying situation!!
