Snowed InApparently, Mother Nature has taken it upon herself to help us teach LM the joys of being snowed in.... We got 2 feet of snow in less than 12 hours. You can do the math. It was a lot coming down in a short period of time... So, we decided we'd take advantage -- this time Papa wasn't snowed in at work like the last big storm so we were all home... and, an added bonus, Granddad Pete was also here.. in fact, in looking back, perhaps he is the one to blame, I mean thank, for bringing all the white stuff with him from Denver?

Snowed In Part II: Definitely Snowed In
Lingering in Bed Reading Books, LM's Fav Past-time!He loves loves loves to read... Before we start bedtime routine, he sits and asks for books. He'll take a book and go sit in his rocking chair vs. play... and as soon as he's up from a nap, the first thing he wants is a book... Favorite books right now include: A Jungle Book that sings (and he "claps" to ask for it because Baloo is clapping in the cover)... "Tails" & "Cats" -- the "sequel" books to "Dogs" (which we almost had to hide after his must read 1,000x/day late in the summer!)... The "Tails" book has somehow taught him who does and doesn't have tails. Literally, I can go thru a litany of animals & people and he appropriately will say YES or NO (and very enthusiastially - it's really cute) if there is or is not a tail involved... What else? GoodNight Gorilla (he now points out that the key color matches the cage. A fact I honestly didn't notice until he started saying the colors.. which, by the way, he's learned all of them including pink and purple in the last 2 weeks... even his Speech therapist could comprehend his expressive efforts!)... And, let us not forget GoodNight Moon... and his 2 new favorites by Sandra Boynton (to add to "Going to Bed Book" - we'll have a reciting contest for all parents coming soon...).... "15 Animals" in which all the animals names are BOB but the last, and he loves shouting "bob bob bob" as we flip the page... and "Moo Baa La La La"... i think he likes that one because the "no no no you say that isn't right" falls right in suite with a 2 year old's favorite vocabulary word... Anyway, he loves to read... and it's so fun to watch him learn as he does!

Folded Laundry
VacuumingCome on? You didn't think he'd just lounge all day, did you?? Ok, Ok, after he finished polishing the hardwoods, we then let him out to romp in the snow... Future Olympic Bobsledding...
Luge? Bobsled? Grand Slalom? Or Extreme Snowboarder?
Only time will tell...
And, of course, with Granddad Pete around, there was lots of rough housing & fun to be had...Only time will tell...
GDP teaches him the art of pillow fighting...LM learns to say "Sock it to em" (or his version of it) as part of the game. I think he's thrown the pillow at me at least 100x since my dad left....

Love the photos, especially with GDP! LM did great on his sled, too. But, the best is the parting shot of "It's 5 o'clock somewhere" with the snow & sippy cup! We laughed out loud! Very creative, Amy K. Keep digging out because more of the white stuff's on its way, like we don't have enough now. Maybe you can save a snowball in your freezer for LM to throw in the middle of July when it'll bring back memories of this winter. :) Love, AN

LM is just as cute as ever. I bet those pants he was folding, the green and brown striped ones, had a cute monkey on the back and were from Carter's.
I loved that set. Matthew had one in every size from newborn to 18 months.
LM looks like he is going to really enjoy laundry when he's older too!
Amy, this was such a cute post. (they all are :) That snow is incredible. I often think about whether or not I could handle that type of weather.
Anyway, he is seriously one beautiful boy and so helpful with the laundry and vacuuming. Oh my word ... Nola cannot stand the vacuum cleaner - I'm guessing she will never help me with that one ;)

I would last exactly 6 hours in that weather. And that's if I were alone. With kids? 6 minutes! Looks like you guys made the best of it, though! Love the sledding, especially LM's face at the end. He looks like he couldn't decide if that was fun or just super scary. (I bet he decided it was more fun than scary.) Oh, and the chores--you know my motto: Get 'em young, train 'em right. hahaha. Hoping it warms up soon for you guys. :)
P.S. Last picture is HILARIOUS. You are so funny!
WOW!! The 'Dogs' book I think is the same some that my youngest brother read so much as a child that my Mom hid the book after getting sick of her (and my Dad and me) reading it to him when he was about LM's age. It brings back great memories of when he was, well, smaller than me!
The snow track video was cool!! I loved the snow here in DE, and my neighbors made a 75-100ft long luge that we did on a saucer. The top required an 8 ft tall step ladder that was on top of 2 feet of snow to reach the top and they banked multiple turns. After they used water to ice it down on Friday, the third banked turn wasn't high enough (only 3 ft high, with 4 ft drop due to their lawn slope) and I (and others) flew over it. My neighbors have a 1 and 3 year old, and they've had the 3 year old go down the second half of it which is tamer. They hope the snow tonight will be enough to tone down how slick the track is so we can keep using it from the top! It's awesome!! The father had multiple neighborhood boys and fathers out to help make the track as long and high as it is. I should send you some pictures as it sounds surreal until you see it :-)
love the video, his expression is priceless! Though he really should have been out there with his cup for the five oclock picture, he is from Russia, he can handle it! Those Kirov boys love the snow, not like my little whimp from Murmansk!
Oh...to hear his laugh on the snow sled....how precious! LM is getting so big ~ before you know it, he'll be shoveling that snow so Mama can get the car out of the driveway. But no -- he has lots of LM time before that and it's thrilling to watch you document him growing up.
Cheers to the sipping cup going solo this week -- we'll send some CA sun to melt that white stuff, k?!
